Hi,

Is it possible to use the BORDER_COLOR attribute as the solid fill colour in the Area Styles tab under Apply Same Styling Based on Attribute/Name Values?

Essentially I would like to style my polygons with a solid fill (with no border) using the attribute data gleaned from using the Add Style Attributes to Selected Features command . It only seems to allow me to use this value as a border colour and not a fill colour.

For background info I am trying to find a workaround to import the solid hatches from CAD drawings into Global Mapper whilst retaining the colours. Currently it converts solid hatches into TIN Face Areas. I have tried creating a new attribute called FILL_STYLE and setting them to Solid and then creating a new attribute FILL_COLOR and passing the BORDER_COLOR values to it using the Calculator. When I try to use these attributes I still end up with coloured borders.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Cheers,
Steve

When I click the button, I don't get anything as if I haven't even clicked. I'm running a Dell Precision 5520 (Windows 10), purchased about a year ago. I

I am using the buffer feature to create landscape patterning which is associated with the contour lines of a particular landscape. I use the buffer tool to reproduce a number of lines after I have meticulously created my line feature which has to run at a certain percentage off-contour. Once this is achieved I replicate this line to see how it behaves when compared to all the other contours. Most of the time I have to make corrections to the original line feature. My question is, is there any function that will automatically update all the lines within the buffer after I correct the original line? At the moment I have to keep reproducing another set of lines using the buffer tool.

The auto-track GPS is really useful. I have my GPS auto-track set to record a point every 30 seconds however, I am wondering if I can extract the time the point was measured as an attribute. Currently I can only view attributes for lat/long and elevation. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Hi, I discovered that if I rename the "Bearing" or "Length" attributes to a new attribute that begins with the attribute, like "Bearing One" or "Length One", v.20 will not recalculate the attribute and create a new "Bearing" or "Length" attribute if I try to add/update the measures. I had to rename it so another word is in front of "Bearing"/"Lenght", like "Test Length" or "Test Bearing" before it would create a new Length or Bearing attribute.

However, v.18 has no problem with this. Not a huge problem, but it was annoying until I figured out what the problem was.

Hi Guys,

I am using Global Mapper Mobile to collect data in the field, and I am using the 'GPS auto-track feature' to track my position. I have the auto track feature set to record my position every 30 seconds however when I transfer the GPS data to my desktop the time of the position recorded is not an included attribute. This is important as I need to correlate the time of the GPS position with measurements taken in the field. Is there anyway I can include the time of the GPS auto track position as an attribute when I transfer the data over? Any help is much appreciated.

HEC-RAS geometry export

HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System) put out by the US Army Corps is a freely available software package used for hydraulic modeling of rivers. It is the primary software package used all over the nation for floodplain mapping related to FEMA and NFIP. It is also used for a lot of other work involving rivers such as designing bridges, culverts, river restoration projects, canals, ...

It does it's job, but it is severely lacking in working with geographic data. So, to get a model setup most people use other software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or AcrView (HEC-GeoRAS).

My suggestion is to incorporate something similar to HEC-GeoRAS into GlobalMapper. If done well there is potential for a lot of users.

All that is really needed are the following;

Ability to work with various terrain datasets

Ability to draw lines

Ability to extract terrain data and distances from these lines

ability to export to a specific file format for HEC-RAS

GlobalMapper is already setup to do all of those. The only step remaining is creating the file ready to be imported into HEC-RAS. Since HEC-RAS is public software I think you can obtain the needed information for this file.

While this would be a great starting point, GlobalMapper has the potential to post process data that HEC-RAS creates. Such as creating flood inundation maps, depth plots, scour plots,.... But I will save that for later.

Hi,

When using data from CAD sources with hundreds of alphanumeric layers it would be useful to be able to select objects of interest with the Digitizer Tool and have the layers highlighted. Using the Feature Info Tool makes for a very slow process of reading the layer name and then searching through hundreds of layers for the layer of interest.

If this is already possible I'd love to know how to do it.

Cheers,
Steve
