v15.2 Won't Run

I've been using v15.1 without problem. Just installed v15.2 and when trying to start it nothing happens except the hourglass flashes for a moment. 15.1 and 15.2 are both 32-bit, running on XP SP3.
Unloaded 15.2, reinstalled 15.1 and it runs fine.
Thanks for your help.

If you check the Windows Event Viewer using the instructions at Customer Support - How do I find event logs when a program crashes? | CyberLink are there any items from global_mapper.exe?
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, there are a string of events referencing the Global Mapper msi. I've attached a file with the output.

Mike,
Did the install fail altogether? I found an article about the error in the logs (all the errors are from the installation) at How to troubleshoot issues with Windows installer service that has some potential fixes. It looks like a problem that happens with Win XP.
Thanks,
Mike

Downloaded and reinstalled the msi installer and ran the repair tool from M$. GM 15.2 still won't install but 15.1 still does. I checked the event log after reinstalling 15.1 and it shows the same events as the 15.2 install. There must be something in 15.2 that conflicts with something on my computer. Oh well.

Mike,
Can you try the v15.2.6 32-bit installer (not yet officially released) at http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/downloads/global-mapper/global_mapper_setup_v1526.exe to see if it has the same problem? If so can you right-click on the .exe in Windows Explorer and click 'Run as Administrator' to see if that makes a difference?
There were initially problems with v15.2 installing on Windows XP 64-bit, but the 32-bit version was fine on XP SP3 32-bit, at least on our test system.
Thanks,
Mike

No luck with the new file trying to open it directly or as administrator. I turned on msi verbose logging for the installtion and it generated a file with over 17,000 lines. These were at the end:
MSI (c) (CC:70) [10:00:12:140]: Product: Global Mapper 15 -- Installation operation completed successfully.
MSI (c) (CC:70) [10:00:12:140]: Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Global Mapper 15. Product Version: 15.00.0010. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 0.

Mike,
Is the installation completing ok but it is running the application after install that is not working? If you go to 'C:\Program Files\GlobalMapper15' is the global_mapper.exe there dated from the last few days? If it's there, can you right click on that global_mapper.exe and select to Run as Administrator and see if it runs that way?
Thanks,
Mike

All my attempts to run the program have been from trying both the desktop icon and the globalmapper.exe file in Program files. No difference in results. The exe properties tag shows the version as 15.26.10.0

Mike,
I've created an internal task item (#14013) and one of our developers will try this on a clean XP SP3 machine to see if we can reproduce the issue. We only updated a couple different DLLs between v15.1 and v15.2, so there aren't many suspects. So far no other reports of issues with XP compatibility though (other than a XP 64-bit issue with the original v15.2.0, but that was fixed in later installer updates, and that version of XP is very rare).
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
We now have the v15.2.7 release at Global Mapper Downloads if you want to try that. We have tried the installers that caused you trouble on a clean XP SP3 install and everything worked fine, so it must be something specific on your machine. We have seen cases where somehow the Microsoft Installer (MSI) environment became messed up on the machine requiring a cleanup utility to be run. See Free Utility: Windows Installer CleanUp Utility for one free utility to fix some install problems.
Thanks,
Mike
