Hi,
I'm using JPG-IN-TIFF compression with version 12.
With the batch mode, it seems to rely on the previous setting used when exporting using the single method - there is no option to vary any of the elements such as tile size within the file.
Just wondering if version 13 / 14 (which i'll update to soon anyway) add additional options in the batch export area.
It worries me a little that i could process a few thousand files and then realise i'd tweaked something since the last use and have to start all over again.
Any info much appreciated!
Thanks
Andy

Andy,
The batch conversion has an option to control whether or not to use tile organization for conversions to GeoTIFF, but there isn't an option to control the tile size in batch. Likewise there isn't a setting for the JPG-in-TIFF quality in batch.
If you want control over those things you could use the script interface which allows control over all of that. Some of that control (like JPG-in-TIFF quality) is new since v12 I think. In v12 you could only control that via a registry setting.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Great to know you're still fully involved in the support as well as product development since the move.
I'll try out the script ASAP.
BTW - did you ever look at the "optimized TIN" model - whereby neighbouring surfaces in a triangle are merged if within a tolerance for change of slope?
Thanks!
Andy -
Andy,
There hasn't been any look yet at optimizing TIN surfaces, although some additional gridding methodologies should be added soon for dealing with dense point data sets (i.e. Lidar). They would be gridding operations without TIN creation though, like binning.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Just running a script for JPEG in TIFF. I find that it will work for setting TILE_SIZE as 128 but fails if i opt for my preferred value of "100" - as the total image of 4000 px isn't divisible by 128
Any ideas? I am using Global Mapper 12 in this instance
Andy -
Andy,
The TILE_SIZE value must be a multiple of 16. It is ok if the tiles don't go evenly into the total image dimensions.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
D'oh... Thanks for that, just came across something similar for gdal_translate.
Am i right in thinking you don't support overviews for GeoTIFF?
Thanks
Andy -
Andy,
Overviews are used when importing GeoTIFF, but you can't create them yet. We are planning to add support for that though.
Thanks,
Mike
