Not responding when downloading terrain data

I have recently found that when I try to download terrain data from the SRTM Worldwide Elevation Data source, the programme just hangs and eventually says "Not Responding". This seems to happen irrespective of the size of the area of data I am requesting. Is this a memory issue? Should I delete the cache? Will this retain all my existing workspace files? Thanks

    What version of Global Mapper are you using? The 'Not Responding' text just means that the program is busy, likely waiting on the server to provide the SRTM data. You can try clearing your cache, but if you have GM 13 or the v14 beta there is a new SRTM source that is hosted on globalmapper.com that tends to be much faster and is less likely to lock up.

    Thanks Mike. I use 13.2. How do I access the alternative SRTM source?

    It is under Terrain Data with the name 'SRTM Worldwide Elevation Data'. The old source is still there as well, just named 'Backup Source - SRTM Worldwide Elevation Data'.
