Opening Mapinfo Files with Pattern Fill

Hi,
I have some geology shapes that have some of the standard mapinfo pattern fills applied. When I open them in GM (v.12) they appear as solid black shapes. Is there any way around this?
thanks

There isn't support for any of the standard MapInfo fill styles in Global Mapper, so they just get mapped to a solid fill. If you have some samples I might be able to take a look and see if support can easily be added for the custom fill styles.

Hi,
sorry about the delay, not enough coffee to work out how to attach files.
I've clipped a geologic legend I used previously, and pasted the screen capture as its displayed in MI. Obviously projection is irrelevant for this legend and the actual patterns get changed around from project to project.
As far as I know, mapinfo does not allow custom fill patterns (at least they did not in the past). There are plug-in tools that allow it, but I am not currently using them. It seems to me that each pattern fill has a brush fill code associated with it and mapinfo looks that up from its pattern library. Superficially (without knowing GM internals) this seems to me similar to the way GM looks up polygon shading. Support for MI pattern fills is about the only drawback I've come across using GM.
cheers

Are those fill styles built-in styles to MapInfo or do you have to load some kind of style pack? I would guess that MapInfo doesn't have all of those custom geology fill types right out of the box but you maybe have to add some kind of style pack to get them? If they are standard then there could be some hope of adding those as built-in styles to Global Mapper as well and automatically mapping to them on import, assuming there was an easy way to pull them out of MapInfo and add them to Global Mapper. You can of course add your own custom fill styles on the Area Styles tab of the Configuration dialog in Global Mapper.
Thanks,
Mike

All those patterns are built in. If I can automatically map them on loading to some easily added custom fills then that would be a great solution, especially if I can easily transfer the custom fill patterns to other GM installation.
Here are all the patterns in MI, I think they have been standard for a long time:

Most are not really geology type, but I use some of the basic ones quite a bit, -
Thank you for the fill styles. I've added this to the todo list so we can add built-in support for those fill styles to a future release.
Thanks,
Mike
