Dozens of New Layers in GM 13.1, Why?

I'm Copy/Pasting line features from two different data sets. I'm only able to do this for a hour or two before I stop, I always save when I stop. I also periodically Save the destination file, then continue.
Apparently, each time I save the file and start doing Copy/Paste again I get a new layer in the OCC. So I now have dozens of layers of pasted features when I only wanted ONE. Previously in GM12, using the same process, I only had a single layer called: User Created Features.
Is this another new "Feature" in GM 13.1 with unintended consequences or is 13.1 really supposed to work this way?
Is there a way to merge all these identically named layers?
Thanks for any help.

The error I described does NOT require a save. EVERY Copy/Paste produces a new layer in OCC.
Use my gmw as the source file, C/P using Cntl-Insert, Shift-Insert to a blank copy of 13.1. EACH C/P will produce a new layer in the blank destination.
Hope you got out and enjoyed the sun.
For your existing workspaces with lots of layers, just edit all of the features with the Digitizer Tool and change the layer selection to a new one to assign them to. You can then close the previous set of layers as they will then just have deleted copies of the features with the active copy in the single new layer.

I was unaware I could transfer multiple layers with edit. Must of had 50 layers, took GM 5-min to grind through all of them, but grind it did.
Thank for the fix.
