Raster with height in the 4th channel

Hi!

I am looking for a way to generate a raster file with 4 channels, where RGB values are stored in the first 3 channels and the height value in the 4th channel, extracted from an elevation model. Preferably in ECW-format. Is this possible to do in GlobalMapper? I am using version 11 at the moment.

Best regards
Kajsa Dahlberg

    Kajsa,

It is not possible to create a 4-channel (other than transparency) ECW in any version of Global Mapper. In newer version of Global Mapper you could export a 4-channel JPEG2000 or GeoTIFF (or a couple of other formats), but the 4th channel has to be from a loaded imagery layer and can't come from a terrain layer, except as the color representation of the layer.

    Thanks,

Ok, thank you for the quick reply.
Is it something that could be implemented in the future?

    Kind regards

    Kajsa,

We would first have to have a version of the ECW library that supports such a thing. Our ECW support is from a 3rd-party library (actually everyone uses the same library for ECW support) so we can only do what their library allows. This would be a non-standard format anyway, could you possibly just use 2 separate files, one with imagery and the other with the associated terrain?

    Thanks,
