KML export creates extraneous files with red X

Attached is a zip file with a jpg map and the GM workspace that georeferences it. Also attached are two doc.kml files for the v12 and v13 KML export and a screen shot showing how it looks in Google Earth. I did not included all the image files with the .kml file.
I have exported many geopdf files from USGS recently using a script and they do not exhibit this issue. Only files I have georeferenced myself.

I have attached a kmz file at a larger sample spacing so it is small enough to attach. You should see the extraneous red X which indicates a missing image. The kml file lists 10 images but only 4 were created. I wonder if GM is generating kml code for transparent areas and then not creating the transparent images? That might explain why the red X appears outside the actual map image.GM13Test.jpgGM12Test.jpg
The calculation of the most appropriate default sample spacing to use was improved for skewed reprojected images like your rectified one, which is why the default values are slightly smaller in v13 than v12.
