Hello,

I added not one but TWO new tutorials for Global Mapper today.

You can see them here:

Tutorial 8 - Georectifying Imagery 101 - Global Mapper Forum and Tutorials

Tutorial 11 - Exporting to Google Maps - Global Mapper Forum and Tutorials

Let me know what you think.

I know it looks like from the tutorial list that I have difficulty counting. I'm trying to migrate and re-record some of the tutorials from the previous site. Eventually all the number and tutorials will be complete.

Have you considered offering a tutorial on scripting?

BTW, whan I click the "Tutorials" button at the top I get blank page in either IE6 or Firefox.

    Roger,

Thanks for the good idea about a scripting tutorial. I'll look into that.

I'm not sure what to think about the tutorials button not working. I have updated the links, please try again. Has anyone else had this problem? Mike?

I actually think it would be pretty difficult to generate a video tutorial of reasonable length on scripting as the subject does not lend itself well to video. It would be like trying to make a short video on how to write a software application. There are a couple of sample scripts in the scripting reference online. Those along with examining workspace files generated by Global Mapper are probably your best tutorial on scripts.

The tutorials button worked fine for me, although for some reason the site was being very slow.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I have very nice dedicated server that has been donated to me. All I have to do is literally drive 15 minutes and pick it up! Of course, installing, configuring, and migrating might take another 15 minutes....or slightly more :)

What other tutorials would you guys like to see ?

Exporting GeoTiff is what I need the most.

I know it is simple to most people.

But I used some time learning it correctly.

I think it can help others.

Thanks for the recommendation Recce. What did you learn along the way that you would find helpful in the tutorial or what tripped you up that I should be sure to point out?

    Here is my "Top 3’’.

    - How to use gridding (is needed because of the 4 GB limit)
    - When to use LZW Compression
    - When to choose: 24 bit, JPEG or 8 bit (without losing too much quality)

    :)

    Paul,

Has this gotten anywhere? I know Mike suggested video wasn't the answer. For me video is almost never the answer. My bandwidth is so low.

Either a PDF or HTML solution is much preferred. I'd like to see a short working sample with suggestion for adding to the sample, the rules. That way my wee brain can wrap around the basic concepts. As of today, I'm simply clueless as to where to start.

    Thanks

Have you looked at the Scripting Reference at Global Mapper - Scripting Language Reference It lists all of the supported commands and their parameters and has several samples.

The best samples for script files are often Global Mapper workspaces. Just load some data into Global Mapper and then save a workspace file and look at it in a text editor to see a script file that loads your data and sets up things like a projection.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Thanks Mike,

I'll give that a test drive.
