Aerial Photo's and raster image

What is the best way to reduce the file size of a large aerial raster image with minimum influence on the quality of the image? I use aerials in Civil 3D to underlay my drawings. Unfortunately the large file size of the aerial slows down the software so much that it renders it nearly useless.

You could export them to an ECW or JPEG2000 format file with the quality settings up pretty high. This will generally produce a much smaller file without losing much and many applications can handle those formats more efficiently. I'm not sure about Civil 3D though.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,
