any non-premimium globe projection?

Greetings
I was wondering if it was possible to load into GM a non-premimium virtual globe, like the old Blue Marble one or equivalent. detail is not that important, it's just to mark (KML) locations and calculate measurements like using the Ruler in GE, only use the tools from GM
Thanks

Craig,
There are several global data sets available in the latest version (http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/products/global-mapper-download.php) if you use the File->Download Online Imagery/Data menu command. You could load any of those (like World Imagery, Landsat, etc.) to get an entire globe of imagery.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike, but can I project it into a globe like GE?
Thanks

You can change your view projection on the Projection tab of the Configuration dialog to one that makes a whole earth view look like a side of a globe. Maybe the Vertical Near-Side Perspective projection with a very large height? There isn't a way to make the 3D viewer do this though.

I found that opening some Saved KML lines from GE into GM did not quite line up with the end coords in GM. those on Orthographic directions was OK but those on an angle say from San Fran to winnipeg did not , at least not in my tests
reprojecting to `Natural Earth`is helpful, as well as the Help-File link to Projections

You might also try the Gnomonic projection as straight lines in that should follow the great circle path (along a spherical earth anyway, they are slightly off of an ellipsoidal earth).
Thanks,
Mike
