Gridding Tree canopy data

I have tree canopy data in shp polygon format. I want to grid it so that I can convert to a clutter dataset in ascii grid. The tree canopy has no height value so I would like to globally assign a 1m elevation to all polygons and then grid based on this. What tool in GM would i use to add a global attribute like this to the DBF file and then I assume I can use the normal gridding tools.
Thanks.

You would use the Digitizer Tool to select all of the features and edit them then add the ELEVATION attribute with the desired value, then generate the grid from it via the right-click menu for the layer on the Control Center.

    Thanks,
