Tracking in GM using Garmin 62stc

I recently purchased a Garmin GPSmap 62stc for use with GlobalMapper 13. Since 2007, I have used the 60csx with GlobalMapper. The 62stc goes into USB mode and does track in GM. I contacted Garmin and they indicated that the newer GPS models would not allow for the same tracking and connections as the older. I downloaded the Garmin Spanner software referenced in a post but can not install because I am running Win7.

Any suggestions or do I need to buy an old GPS to work with GM (shame on Garmin).
