GM 13.2 Freezing while digitizing line

Mike,

I just installed GM 13.2 and was using it with a current project digitizing lines. The performance while digitizing seems a little slower with a large workspace loaded. The problem is that while digitizing a line with a particular workspace, the program freezes when I hover to snap near a particular line endpoint. There's no problems near other line endpoints. I've tried this on two computers. I have no problem with the same operation with GM 13.1 (b030512).

I'll attach a workspace that I believe needs no supporting files to help in replicating the problem. To replicate:

- Open the attached workspace
- Show vertices
- Select Create Line
- Hover near the endpoint in the middle of the screen (502414, 3221983)
- On the machines I checked, the program will freeze

If you delete the other line in view and retry, it works for me.

Thanks,
David

    David,

The issue was the new functionality for snapping to line intersections automatically. In the case of your data there were over 450,000 vertices between the 2 lines! This was causing the intersection finding for snapping to take a long time. I have disabled the snapping to intersections for extremely complex lines, but I'm also working on a performance enhancement that may allow me to re-enable it. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the latest changes for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v13.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v13 version there is a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Thanks, Mike. Thanks for fixing it so fast. I'll give it a try in a while.

    Mike,

I just installed the new version and started using it. I've now seen several cases where a new line did not snap to an existing line at the new line's endpoint. They've always been at the endpoint not at the starting point of the line, and all cases I've seen have been where the line being digitized has it's last point snapped to a portion of an existing line between vertices. The distance between the new line's endpoint and the existing line in all cases has been well less than 0.0001 meter to the point where when I zoomed in on it, the distance scale was removed.

    David,

Are the new line and the line being snapped to of the same projection? If they are different then because the projections are different there will likely be very tiny differences as the projection math is not perfectly reversible and floating point math not perfectly accurate, but as you noted the differences should be miniscule. If the lines are in the same projection and the view projection is the same I would expect them to be on top of each other though.

    Thanks,
