It's because the projection name is just "Local". What projection does it come into ArcGIS as?

    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,

The prj file is a custom coordinate for mining site.

Actually what version of Global Mapper are you using? I forgot these were even supported, but it turns out you can load that PRJ file directly in v13.1. A local projection will come in as either Transverse Mercator, or if there is an azimuth (i.e. rotation angle) it will come in as Hotine Oblique Mercator B.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

Looks like support for a "local" projection in a PRJ file was added in v12.01.

I've been having this problem with Global Mapper for ever it seems. Can't get it to read ANY PRJ files from shapefiles.
I end up having to manuallyl define the projection in Global Mapper.
    What's going on there?

Which version of Global Mapper are you using and what projection is in the PRJ file? Can you provide a sample PRJ file that won't load?

    Thanks,
