Shapefile Export Cropping

When exporting a shapefile the "Crop to Selected Area Feature" is greyed out even though I have an area feature selected. Is there a reason this is not an option?

    Cropping general vector layers to an area for export is not supported yet. Only raster/elevation layers and some point vector exports support cropping to an area feature on export.
