Creating map file with roughness vectors to use in WaSP

hi there,
i have a .dxf map of the area that i am gonna analyse in WaSP program. WaSP can recognize exact elevation values and coodinates, that is good but i need to plot the mean speed graph on the map too. To do this i need to create roughness vectors for the map. How can i do this automatically in global mapper?
Another question, is there any way to create digital maps which can be used in WaSP for analysis with global mapper? i mean can i create digital maps of any area of the world by using online sources in global mapper?
Sorry guys, since i am a mechanicel engineer i have no idea about these things.
thanks.

In the latest build of Global Mapper there is built-in support for land cover sources for the entire world, including CORINE for Europe and NLCD for the US. You can pull those in, then right-click on the layer in the Control Center and select to create a roughness grid from it, which will create a grid of roughness values and also roughness areas if you check. Those roughness areas can then be directly exported to Wasp for use there. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v13.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v13 version there is a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip .
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks Mike for quick answer, but i am completely new global mapper user (beginner level). Firstly, how do i pull in the land cover maps ?
Secondly, when i load my dxf map and go to control center and right click on the layer, there isn't ''create a roughness grid '' option. Coppied the file you attached too. So where is it?
I also attach a little part of the dxf map file because I even don't know what kind of map that is (changed file extansion from ''.rar'' to ''.zip'' to attach). Maybe you can show me an easy way to create roughness vectors in this map with global mapper and use it in WaSP.
thanks again. The new feature in the latest build is for creating roughness grids and areas from raster land cover maps, you wouldn't be able to create them from a DXF file which is already vector data. Did you download the appropriate .zip file that I specified to update your build? It should say v13.01 on the title bar now. Once you've done that use File->Download Online Imagery/Data and pull down an appropriate source from the new Land Cover section. You can then right-click on that layer in the Control Center and select the option to create a roughness grid.

thank you very much..That is one of the best online support i have ever seen. i have managed to do it.
One last question, how do i cut a little part and create roughness grid of it? I know now how to create roughness grid but i can't cut the part that i want from the map.
thanks. -
When you create the roughness grid there is a 'Specify Bounds' option on the dialog that appears that allows you to specify the bounds of the roughness grid to create.
Thanks,
Mike
