Adding a time stamp to a point feature when GPS is not available

I need a way of automatically adding a time stamp to a point feature, much like you would add a waypoint to a map. We do wireless (cell, WiFi) surveys and Global Mapper is part of my GIS toolbox. Our test equipment works great outdoors when GPS is available. The problem is indoors, it would be nice to open a floor plan in Global Mapper, and then place points on the plan that corresponds to places we took measurements. If we can associate a time with that point then we can cross reference it with the time that the test instrument took measurements. Any thoughts on how to do this in Global Mapper? Thanks!

I can't think of an easy way other than saving a waypoint, but what if I added a button on the feature edit dialog to add a timestamp attribute with the current time? Would that work? I could throw that in pretty easily.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Steve,

I have completed adding the new button to add a time stamp attribute when creating a new point feature. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v13.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v13 version there is a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Thanks for adding the timestamp button. Now one more request. Can you enable exported KML/KMZ file to contain these timestamps....I did try to export one and though the timestamp was visible as part of the feature description, it was not exported in the requisite timestamp format and hence could not be used for animation...thanks

I went ahead and added support for reading and writing <TimeStamp> tags for KML files. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the latest changes for you to try.
