Global Mapper v25.0

Draw 3-D polyline

I have done this before in Version 12 and now I don't remember how. I am trying to connect points with Z elevation defined and generate a 3-D polyline.

You can right-click in the Digitizer Tool and select to create a line, then just click on the existing points. In v13 you could also just select the collection of points and select to connect them in a line and they should be connected automatically in the shortest connecting path.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

I tried that but the elevations of the points are not getting attached to the vertices of the resultant line thereby by generating a 2-D polyline instead of 3-D

Which version of Global Mapper are you using? The ability to automatically grab elevation values from snapped-to 3D points when digitizing new lines wasn't added until recently.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Do your points have elevation assigned to them as attributes? Are you using v12.02? Are you digitizing a line using the Digitizer Tool and clicking on each of those points with elevation?

    Thanks,

    Mike,

I am doing everything you have mentioned: Using version 12.02(b051211), points have elevation defined with an attribute name, I am using digitizer tool's "Create new Line feature (Vertex Mode)" and clicking on each of the points.

    Thanks

    Naven,

Can you provide a sample workspace with the 3D points you are clicking on and a line created from them? If you select the line with the Feature Info Tool and press the Vertices button it is not showing an elevation column correct?

    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,
sorry for the delay in my response but I had to prepare data to be able to send it out. Yes I am not seeing elevations after I draw the line in Version 12.02 (b051211). I have attached the points and the underlying terrain I am using to generate path profile from the line created after connecting the points.

    Thanks

    Naven,

I just tried and it works for me, is each point that you are clicking on an existing point feature, so that each one has an elevation? If the elevations you want are from the Lidar you can also just select the line after creating it then right click and select to add elevations from the terrain, or add them right on the Vertex dialog.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,

It is actually working! Feature info would not show the elevation column for line but the vertices appear to have the elevation equal to point elevations. I had to look at the vertices instead of just feature info of line. Also when plotting the profile, I had to make sure that the elevation unit is feet and not meters thereby getting the line profile overlaid on top of the terrain profile. Global Mapper is awesome!

    Thanks for your help!
