making mesh from .txt files for 3ds max

hi all ,new to the forum and to global mapper software. I have a massive lidar scan of a pyramid (20gb) and would like to make a 3d model usable within 3ds max. the scan was done using a topcon scanner producing a .txt file which looks like this

I'm assuming the data goes like this xyz, then intensity, then rgb. the files contain no header just data.
I've had some success and managed to make a model using the scan but the results werent good enough

I dont think it is a mesh they got, i think this is a flyround in their point cloud software but i need detail like what is shown here, individual bricks etc. i'd also like to be able to use the rgb and intensity values in an exported model too.
any ideas?

    What they have looks like Lidar stuff with RGB data on it. You would really need to keep it as a point cloud since the 3D surface isn't going to handle things like bricks going in. Let me see what I can do to get those last 3 columns interpreted as RGB. There is already support for .xyzi files with intensity, just not the RGB. That support is there for Lidar files though, just needs extended for this.

    thanks for the quick response mike, their stuff is point data with rgb on it and theyre in japan and no reply as yet, i'm trying to find which software they used to do the visualisation. In the meantime, how do i change the orientation of the mesh.saqqara_for_forum2.jpg
    i notice that the mesh is made from the floor to the point so rogue noise appears as spikes. if i were to make the mesh develop from the vertical axis toward the viewer then i suppose i'd get a better looking model. so the question is how do i do that?

    I have a solution for you I think. Can you edit your text file and add a header line that names the field so it looks like the following?

    Then load with the File->Open Generic ASCII Text File menu command as 'Point Only', specify to use Space or Tab as the separator, to include attributes from coordinates lines, and that the first row contains column names. Then load the data and export it to a Lidar LAS file using the File->Export Vector Data menu command and check the option to include color values from points. This should give you a Lidar LAS file with the color stored for each point. You can then load that back in and visualize as a point cloud.

    The option to include color from points during vector LAS export wasn't added until recently, so you may need to get the latest v13 build to have this. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v13.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v13 version there is a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip .
