full 3D View navigation from number pad?

Regarding Global Mapper 12:

I discovered that rotate and zoom can be controlled from the arrows on the number pad. This seems to be undocumented in the PDF.

However, no combination of keys and arrows that I could find will result in a pan move sideways or vertically. Control with arrows, Shift with arrows, Alt with arrows, and combinations of Control, Shift and Alt with arrows, none of these give me a pan move.

Seems odd that zoom and rotate are allowed from the number pad arrows, but no pan. What am I missing here, and where is this functionality found in the PDF help file? Searches turned up nothing.

I'm not particularly devoted to using the number pad, I just want a repeatable keyboard control for sideways pan so I can make 3D stereo pairs.

Thanks.

Currently panning with the arrow keys is only possible if you are in "walk" mode in the 3D view. Only zoom and rotate are available otherwise. And I agree that the help documentation of the 3D view is somewhat lacking.

It seems the combination I need is not available.

Is there a way in walk mode to pan horizontally without following the terrain, and also have the ability to tilt down (pitch)? It would suffice if the orientation made in the other mode carried over when switching to walk mode, but the view resets when switching. (I'm not certain the camera rises with the terrain when panned, but want to make sure it doesn't.)

In order to make stereo pairs the camera lines of sight must be absolutely parallel, and they must be on the same horizontal baseline. I can adjust the rest with other software.

Interesting that in walk mode the number pad arrows are no longer functional, and the optional arrows are the ones that work.

The camera in walk mode seems to be panning across a fixed still, and not changing perspective by a change in position. This is true both horizontally and vertically. The camera does rise with the terrain when panned sideways, apparently, but is only panning a very wide field of view still image.

But the stereo pairs I've made this way show no parallax whatsoever. The are like a stereo photograph of a flat picture.

I've tried panning by hand in the object mode but cannot get the alignment right because there are no guides or constraints. In that mode a pan does change the perspective.

Too bad, I like GM a lot but it does not seem adaptable to this job. A simple sideways nudge in object mode would do the trick.

I have updated the 3D viewer in v13 so that now the arrow keys and the Page Up/Down keys work to pan and zoom the map in non-walk mode. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v13.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v13 version there is a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

Yes, this works, Mike. Thank you for making the pan nudge in small increments, that's just what I needed. Find your red/cyan glasses, 'cause there's a 3D coming at ya, below.

Luckily I have a pair of red/cyan glasses! That is a pretty sweet pic, might add the ability to generate those to GM one of these days (that's why I picked up the glasses to start with).

    Thanks,
