Add area measurements to polygons without units

I'd like to be able to add area measurements to polygons without units. For example, when I add measurements to polygons, GM generates area measurement field with (nnn.n acres) instead of (nnn.n). I'd like the to have the option of adding measurements as a number instead of text to allow measurement based work. Perhaps I'm missing a function and I apologize if that's the case. Thanks for your time.

If you right-click in the Measure Tool there is an option named 'Append Unit Names..." that you can uncheck. Then when you add measure attributes they won't have units appended to them.
