Accessing Spatial databases like PostGIS, SQL Server 2008, Oracle Spatial

We do eventually plan to add direct database access to both Global Mapper and the SDK, but it might be a while before we can get to that.
Thanks,
Mike

Is there any news? In particular with SQL or ArcSDE on SQL
-
No news, although this may be something we add for the big v14 release late this summer.
Thanks,
Mike

We are beginning work on the spatial database support in Global Mapper and are soliciting user feedback on how users actually use the databases to see how to approach the implementation. If any of the posters on this thread want to provide more information on what capabilities they would like to see in Global Mapper in this regard we would be very interested. You could also likely become beta testers as the functionality is implemented.
Feel free to either respond here or send a message to gmsupport@bluemarblegeo.com if you'd rather it not be public.
Thanks,
Mike

Thank Mike,
This is great news!
I map SQL server 10.0 geography tables in ArcMap using a OLE DB connection, with SQL server native client 10.0 data. This include points and polygons. I find this very useful and powerful advantage over exporting from SQL and importing into Global mapper.
I will provide more feedback when i have more time over the next couple of weeks.
cheers

Hi Mike,
It's been a long time. This is great news as I have a couple of projects lined up which requires access to an MSSQLServer or PostGIS/Oracle database and I would like to use GM. I would very much want to be a beta tester if it is not too late.
My work is mostly targeted towards electric and telecom utilities.
These I would very much like to be able to do...
Vector stuff
1. ability to load geo tables as layers and be able to get attributes from GM_VectorFeature_t.
2. ability to edit and delete features and apply the changes to the database on demand.
3. layers from database should ideally behave no differently from data from files so that same code will work for both cases
4. ability to create a layer from an SQL query. if that is done, then I can even execute a spatial query against the database and Global Mapper in itself would not have to do much spatial operations.
5. ability to support projections from SQL tables. Like if there is projection defined for a table, then it would be great if that projection is converted to a GM_Projection_t to be used as the layer's native projection.
Raster/elevation
-- Not much since my work is related to electric and telecom utilities and they normally don't require much raster and elevation stuff though having them as a BLOB in the database would be helpful in some situations. -
You can get the latest v14 installers (release later today!) from the links below and try out the database support. There isn't yet a SDK build with the database support exposed in it yet, but we should release the SDK v14.0 in the coming weeks.
32-bit: http://www.globalmapper.com/downloads/global_mapper14_setup.exe
64-bit: http://www.globalmapper.com/downloads/global_mapper14_setup_64bit.exe
Thanks,
Mike

Installed the 32-bit version. The 64-bit installer came up with an error message. I will try the 32-bit version on my PostGIS database when I get home.
-
I'm in the process of uploading new builds right this second, which is probably why you got an error on the 64-bit version. It should be fine later today when we officially release.
Thanks,
Mike

Is direct database access to Global Mapper 14 possible.
-
Yes we just added some new database access function in SDK v14 in a new GlobalMapperInterface_DB.h file. Get the file http://www.globalmapper.com/GlobalMapperSDK_v14_latest_beta.zip to try that out if you have a v14 SDK license.
Thanks,
Mike
