According to http://www.globalmapper.com/online_data/add_data.htm, "The NGA Digital Nautical Charts site offers a large selection of marine charts in DNC format for free download. DNC charts can be viewed in Global Mapper v6.00 and above." However when I download and try to open the rtp file (as VPF), it does not work. I followed the extremely confusing instructions at the nma site and "unzipped" the rtp file and GM still can not open the indivicdual files. Is there a trick to this? Please let me know if this is even possible in GM? Thanks.

The NGA site is somewhat confusing. The .rtp files are just patches to existing charts and not a full chart, so you can't directly load those. You have to download a full chart edition (labeled 'Download Full Library' on the site) and then load that into Global Mapper. Note that the full edition chart is not offered for all charts, so you won't be able to load those charts since all they have is patches to existing charts and not the full set of chart data.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Ok. Thanks for that info. Now this is my problem. I have downloaded the shoreline link you have on you site and want to add the water to the oceans and seas. IN this case, the red sea and part of the indian ocean. I just can not figure out a way to do it. I have successfully cut out only the portion of the seas I want but no clue on how to add the water. Any ideas??

It will be difficult to add water from the shoreline data as that data is line data and not closed areas that you could easily fill. You might instead download the VMAP1 tiles for your area of interest from http://www.mapability.com/index1.html?http&&&www.mapability.com/info/vmap1_download.html and load those. They will come with filled water polygons already.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,
