ESRI symbol fonts to GlobalMapper

Hello! I'm new and I didn't do a search, so I apologize if I am treading on well trodded ground...but I know this is something I'm sure you all have dealt with and can point me in the right direction in two seconds.

I work in ESRI ArcMap and I'm a GIS Specialist - been doing this for about 15 years. However, I know just about nil on Global Mapper. The new company I work for has a lot of geologists working in Global Mapper. They want the symbol set that I use in ArcMap. Is there any easy way of doing that? They symbols I use are mostly from font sets. Could I just give them the fonts?

My first attempt was to just symbolize some points with the symbols they watned, export the layer as a KML (so that the symbols got exported as .pngs), then I just gave them the image files to add to GlobalMapper. But they can't size them in Global Mapper. Or, rather, when they size them, they get fuzzy cause it's just a 32x32 bit image.

Any ideas?

There isn't a directly way to pull in ArcMap symbols in Global Mapper, but if you have the symbols as a font installed on a system then you could create a new point feature in Global Mapper and specify that it should use that font then make the display label whatever character corresponds to the symbol from the font. Set the actual point symbol for the feature to 'No Symbol' so just the text from the symbol font is displayed at the point location.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hello Mike,

    Thank you for the reply.

I'm not sure how to create a font set from a symbol set that is made up from several different fonts, and then install that on the machines that have GlobalMapper. So...we didn't go that route. Instead, I just did the bitmap thing - exported my symbols as an image and cut and pasted until I had all the symbols I wanted at the resolution needed. Then imported the bitmaps in GlobalMapper. Not ideal, but it worked. I do want the ability to swap all my symbols, so I'll look into trying to get the fonts on each of the machines with GlobalMapper.

Thank you for your time! :)
