Hi, It would be nice to be able to bring a PDF (Governement Vector Maps published on their web site) into GM and then use the Image Rectifier to line up overtop of say LandSAT 7 images then export to Google Earth. Virtual Earth has a nice feature via MapCruncher that allows you to bring in PDFs and line them up with the VE base maps.

Cheers James.

We have an item on our todo list to support GeoPDF in a future release, but I'm not sure when we might get to it.

    Thanks,

Hi Mike, Adobe Illustrator can open most Vector PDF files. I normally have to open PDF maps up in Illustrator to clean them up to look nice. I seems many GIS programs are not as interested in making nice looking maps for the web. But then I have to rasterize the map to bring it into Global Mapper. It would be nice to keep it as a Vector file.

    Cheers James

    James,

That is something that we'd like to do, but PDF is a very complex format not really designed with mapping in mind, so it would be a pretty huge endeavor. If we can find a library or something to help us out it might be better.

In general we consider PDF to be an output format and not really a format for working with spatially referenced mapping data.

    Thanks,

    Mike
