Cut-and-fill volume calculation

Hello.

I have got a task to calculate cut-and-fill volume.
I have two DTMs. One is before excavation and the second one is after.
I need to calculate cut and fill volume relative to the level of first DTM.
As I understand I have to load two DTMs and then to draw an area. Then right click and choose cut-and-fill option from the pop-up menu.
However the only a costant heght can be chosen as a base level.
Is there any way to do calculations relative to the vary level of the first DTM?

Thanks
Maxim

    Maxim,

If you are trying to find the volume difference between two DTMs I would suggest first using the File->Combine Terrains menu command to find the difference between the 2 DTMs, then performing a cut-and-fill volume against the new difference DTM at a level of 0.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Mike,

It looks like this is what I am looking for.
The only problem I see is:

those two DTMs are not solid DTMs but consisted of bits. So it is imposible to choose a DTM as a base level.
Is there any simple way to combine bits in two solid DTMs to be compared?

    Thanks in advance

    Maxim,

I'm not quite sure if I understand what you mean by the DTMs being composed of bits? Are their invalid areas?

    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,

I have got new task and hope you have got a solution as usual.

Is there any way to calculate volume of the area of free span underneath the pipe based on multibeam survey results only?
In other words I need to extract volume of the area based on DTM and the dimensions of the pipe.

    Thanks in advance

    Maxim,

You should just be able to select the pipe line feature with the Digitizer Tool, then right-click and select the Measure Volume option to calculate the cut-and-fill volume along the pipe path relative to the terrain surface.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,
