Me again,

Is there a way to edit a Geotiff in say something like Photoshop and preserve the embedded georeferemce data?

If you save a world file and PRJ file when you create the GeoTIFF with Global Mapper, you can then edit the GeoTIFF in other applications that strip off the position information and still have it available when loading the TIFF back in spatially aware applications like Global Mapper. You just have to be sure not to resize the image.
