ERS files in batch convert

Mike,
I still seem to have a problem generating ERS files in the Batch/Convert options.

I am using the latest patch version I believe (10 May 2010) and selecting "Generate Metadata only"

Using a 4 band ECW as input the subsequent ERS file still says "Number of Bands = 1"

I thought this was fixed earlier?

    Pat,

What are you selecting for the output format and options? The number of bands placed in a generated ERS file should reflect what the output file is setup to use, regardless of whether that output file is actually written. For example if you selected to output a grayscale or palette-based GeoTIFF file, even if the input is a 4-band ECW file, the number of bands would be stored as 1 in the ERS file generated since the output file would have just had 1 band. The number of bands in the input file doesn't matter.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,
In Batch Convert I am selecting ECW as input and ECW as output. I don't see any options to format the ECW output other than in the batch convert dialog about contrast and anti-aliasing. None of these are selected. Source datum/proj is not changed, no gridding, no re-sampling just output of metadata files in ERS and EWW format. The only other options selected are "Force square pixels" and "Show batch progress". Target compression is set to 10.

    Pat,

I took a look and discovered a slight variation on the original bug that was fixed that was causing this issue. I also decided to update the output in the case of only generating metadata to go ahead and use the band count and sample size from the input file rather than basing it on the output settings. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v11.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit version, there is a new build available at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,
I tried the new build and it now gives me "Number of bands = 3". The ECW actually has 4 bands but I would guess that because GM can't tell if it is a fourth band or an alpha channel it ignores it.

Is this linked to the fact that in order to view RGB in a 4 Band ECW we have to toggle the "Ignore Alpha Channel" option?

    Pat,

Yes, the 4th band of the ECW file would automatically be interpreted as an alpha channel, resulting in just 3 being stored for the band count. I have updated the ECW import to always make 4-band ECW files look like 4-band files, so the 4th band can easily be treated as alpha or disabled and used as a data band.
