GPS Units and Raster maps

Hi, I know the issue of Raster and vector maps has been covered before.
But there are a few new GPS units on the market now that take Raster files.
Magellan Trition series
Delorme Earthmate PN-20
Garmin Colorado??

Has any one had any experience yet or done any research into getting files from Global mapper to any of these units?
thanks,
Mike

I don't have any familiarity with the raster formats required for those units, but perhaps someone else here will have some ideas.

    Thanks,

    Mike

The Garmin Colorado isn't coming out till this spring (can't wait) It is supposed to take raster and vector data.

I am working on a tutorial to walk through getting vector data on a GPS device (a Garmin 60cs)

    Thanks,

We already know that the PN-20 is very slow with raster maps/images. Given that Garmin, DeLorme, et al have access to the same low power ARM CPU's, don't expect anything past glacial. Until Intel offers milli-Watt x86 CPU's at the 32nm node, that performance will not change.

Global Mapper already offers polish format (cGPSmapper) output. So all you need is the MP to img complier to have almost any GM vector on a Garmin unit today.

I have the full state of Colorado with 40-foot contours inside my Venture Cx, works great. But at that level of detail, it too is slow. Too slow for highway speed, walking is fine.

I predict that you'll want to use mostly vector maps in the Garmin Colorado, at least for the foreseeable future.
