Bug when batch exporting arc ASCII grids?

Hi,

I came across what could be a (little) bug regarding the export of Arc ASCII grids.
When exporting a raster as an "Arc ASCII Grid" from Global Mapper's interface, it is saved as a .asc file, which is the correct file format that ArcMap can read.
When using the Batch Convert/Reproject tool, the equivalent option is to export to an "Arc/Info ASCII Grid file" with a ".AGR" extension.

It looks like it is exactly the same format, however ArcMap doesn't natively recognize the .AGR extension and I had to rename the files to .asc manually.

It was no big deal for me as I only had a few files, but this could get annoying if someone has to batch export a lot of files.

Is this really a bug?

Keep up the good work, GM is awesome!

Looks like an oversight. I've seen Arc ASCII Grid files with a .agr extension before, but I guess if ArcMap only likes .asc it makes sense to use that by default. I have updated the batch conversion to that format to use .asc instead of .agr. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v11.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit version, there is a new build available at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for your helpful post above. We just discovered the same bug, however we are only running v9 (:( living in the dark ages) and so I wondered if there was a fix for this version? Or will the v11 fix work on v9?

    Cheers for your help,

    Pete

    Pete,

I have placed a new v9 build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper9.zip that will use the .asc extension when batch converting to Arc ASCII Grid files.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,
