I am a new user of Global Mapper, and have come across a bit of a challenge. I am needing to convert a CSV file from UTM WGS84 to a local grid coordinate system. I would appreciate any help with this.

Thanks in Advance!

You can do this in Global Mapper. Just load your CSV file as UTM/WGS84 using the File->Open Generic ASCII Data File menu command. Then, go to the Projection tab of the Configuration dialog and define your local grid coordinate system. You would typically do this using an Orthographic or Transverse Mercator projection with the projection origin (central/origin lat/lon) set to the lat/lon at the origin of your grid system. Then do a new CSV export.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your help Mike.
I am wrapping my head around this and feel encouraged I will get it to work. Is there any specific setup for the CSV and what column headings work the best?
    Cheers!

    Zach,

There are lots of ways to organize the CSV file to work, but the easiest is to have your coordinate columns first, that way you don't have to specify to skip any columns on import to reach the coordinates. Also remember to check the options to do a 'Point Only' import, make your separator a 'comma', and check the box to include attributes from coordinate lines.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike,
In the past I have used Global Mapper to convert files from one projection to another. Now, I was thrown a local grid curve ball, and really don't know how to swing at it. I am confused exactly what data I need in the CSV.
Also, how do I set the projection origin to the lat/lon at the origin of my grid system? You lost me there.

Would you be willing to take a call and discuss these questions with me? My work line is 208-664-4859.

    Thanks,
    Zach

Good day Mike, and a good day it is. With your help on this, my boss has promoted me from a GIS Technician to the GIS Specialist!

We were able to do the conversions with your great help. Thanks a million!
Now, we are working at converting DXF files. I think we are looking good.

    Thanks again for your help!
