3D view behaviour

Finding some unusual quirks in working with elevation data in 3D mode since loading the V11.01 upgrade patch.

With the viewer open i have a data set rotated to where i want to see effects of sea level rise. A soon as i bump the water level, my view reverts back to default orientation and zoom scale. Same thing happens if i pan the view ..i lose the custom perspective i'd just set up and have to re-jig the rotation/scale to see the changes as desired.

The viewer just seems to re-set to default scale/orientation every time i change a view setting.

As a side note it seems that when using the rotate view it rotates around the center of the "3d-model" instead of the center of the point of the current view. This is problematic when you are not working in the middle of the 3d-model, but are working near the edges of it.

We'll take a look and see if we can't fix these quickly.

    Thanks,

I second STH in wanting an option to zoom and rotate around the centre of the view, I'm a 3D modeller when I'm not doing GIS, and this is a very convenient way of navigating a 3D scene.

We're still working on having the zoom and recenter work on the center of your view and not the center of the entire view.

There is now a fix for the view resetting whenever you change something like the water level. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v11.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit version, there is a new build available at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11_64bit.zip .

    Thanks,

The 3D view has now been updated to rotate around your view center instead of the center of the entire 3D view. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

By default, when you rotate the view as described in the preceding section, you are rotating the scene as though you are rolling your hand across a “trackball”. For some users this is intuitive and for others it is not. If you feel you are having difficulties with this style of 3D window rotation you can switch to the “turntable” style.
