Which is preferred, Arcgrid or Gridfloat? I'm just curious if GlobalMapper can use one better than the other. Also, does anyone know if the file sizes compare between the two?

I will probably end up converting this data to the Global Mapper compressed format, but it comes to me in either of the two formats mentioned above.

Using the Gridfloat will result in a smaller file and one that loads more quickly and uses much less memory as GM doesn't have to read the entire file into memory like it does for Arc ASCII Grid files. If you have an Arc Binary Grid though (a data set with a .adf extension), then that will likely be a smaller file. The Global Mapper Grid format is better than any of those formats though.

    Thanks,
