Double redraw

Hi

GM 11 seems to do a double redraw (screen refresh) when I do certain operations. For example if I change the vertical options in the configuration dialogue and hit "apply", it redraws twice before I can view the image.

Similarly if I click on the digitizer tool icon the screen immediately redraws (but not always). The redrawing is not that big a deal but as I am viewing some very large DEM datasets, the redraws can take 4-5 second to complete which is a bit annoying.

Any ideas?

I was able to reproduce the double-redraw when changing settings and fix it. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v11.xx installation folder to give it a try.

When you display the Digitizer Tool the first time the Digitizer Toolbar will be displayed by default, which is a different size than the base toolbars and causes a redraw. You can avoid this by going under the View->Toolbars menu and either setting the Digitizer Toolbar to always be displayed or to turn it off if you don't use it.

Hi Mike

If I can return to redrawing, it seems to me that GM11 is still re-draw happy. It re-draws when I switch off an overlay, delete a feature, or switch on the digitiser tool bar. There may be more circumstances. None of these actions caused a redraw in GM10.

As I said in my previous post, its not a big deal but when you are dealing with very large datasets, the redraws are up to 5 seconds and slow the work-flow.

Can you stop these re-draws happening?

I would expect a redraw to happen for all of those (even in v10) as you are changing what needs to be drawn for the current view. The Digitizer Toolbar is the one odd one that is caused by the toolbar being a different size than the base ones. If you choose to always display that toolbar under the View->Toolbars menu this won't happen.

Hi Mike

Now you have got me thinking. I have GM10 and GM11 in front of me. If I do any of the actions I described in my last post with GM11 then I get a protracted redraw. In GM10 with exactly the same gmw file, if I get a re-draw its so fast that I don't notice.

I am wondering if its the large elevation dataset I have open? Could it be that GM11 is re-reading the elevation model and GM10 wasn't?

Whatever it is, I can absolutely state that I am getting a faster operation out of GM10 than GM11 due to re-drawing, refreshing of data or whatever.

I am using multi-tiles of SRTM elevation data as zipped HGT file format with overlays of Shapefile, contours, geo-referenced images, user created features etc.

Any thoughts appreciated

Bob,

I can't think of any reason why v11 would be redrawing when v10 wouldn't. Can you perhaps post your workspace file or email it to support@globalmapper.com so that I can take a look and see if I see anything obvious?
