path profile questions

hello - i did a search, but didn't find the answers...

i currently own version 8.01.

i have DEM data loaded, and want an elevation profile along a path - the path is a gps tracklog, in GPX format, and has about 2500 points.

i can view the path on the DEM, but i can only seem to get an elevation profile along a manually created path.

I would also like to export the profile (distance, elevation), in CSV format.

It seems that I can not do this with version 8.01.

if i buy version 10, will i be able to do this?

i suppose another option would be to upgrade to version 9 - would that work?

thanks.

You should be able to generate a path profile along an existing line by selecting it with the Digitizer Tool, then right-click and select the option to view the path profile of the line.

The option to export a distance/Z file should already be on the File menu on a path profile dialog in v8. Try downloading the last v8.xx release from http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper8_setup.exe to make sure you have the appropriate release.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    thanks.

i have upgraded to 8.03, although it may not have been necessary...

my problem was that i wasn't selecting the path with the digitizer tool, before right-clicking.

so, i was only seeing options related to creating a new line.

nevertheless, i am still thinking of upgrading to v.10 - can i purchase two upgrades at $89 each, to get from 8 to 10, or must i buy the full program again?

    thanks again.

Purchasing a v8-v9 upgrade then a v9-v10 upgrade is the cheapest way to get from v8 to v10.

    Thanks,

    just a thought...

a choice of exporting the profile to GPX format would be nice.
