Elevation points from DEM

Global Mapper User
I create with the digitizer tool some points to which I "calculate" the elevation value from a DEM using the famous option given by GM. But When I export these points to MapInfo (Mid/Mid), I can not map them. So I am looking for a solution allowing me, mapping the points with their elevation values. May be, the calculation of XY coordinates for these points will be a good solution...
P.S. When I import the .mif file in mapInfo, I obtain two fields : the first one, called LAYER and the second one is called ELEVATION.
Many Thanks

What version of GlobalMapper are you using? There was a bug in the v10.02 release which caused MapInfo MIF exports to fail. I have just fixed this bug this morning. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper10.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v10.xx installation folder to give it a try.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Thanks,
Mike

I am using GM 9.03. But before, the export to Mapinfo MIF was successful without any problem. Should I upgrade to GM 10.02 ?

The problem with exporting to MapInfo files should not have been there in v9.03. Do you get some kind of error when exporting the MapInfo file from v9.03, or can you not load the file back into Global Mapper and see the elevation values when you select them?
Thanks,
Mike

During the export process, there is no error message. But when I want to open the exported file in GM again, it gives me this warning message :
"MAPINFO files do not contain projection information.
Please select the projection/datum for this file.
Check with your data supplier for this information if you do not have it."
So when I select the appropriate Projection, it opens in GM. However, when I import the MIF file into MAPINFO, I find only one point in the graphic window and in the attribute chart I find the elevation value in one field and another field called LAYER in which is written "Unknown Point Feature" -
The projection dialog is normal for some projections/datums if Global Mapper does not know (or the MapInfo format simply doesn't support) whatever projection/datum the data is provided in. You might try changing your projection and datum on the Projection tab of the Configuration dialog to a common one like UTM or Geographic prior to exporting to see if the unknown projection system is the issue when loading the file into MapInfo. What does it look like when you load it back into GM?
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Thanks,
Mike

My projection was Longitude/Latitude WGS84, I changed it to UTM but no thing happens.
When I set it to Long/Lat WGS84, the file opens. When GM displays it, I can see points and when I double clic on one point, a small window opens in which I can read the elevation value.
May be I should upgrade to GM 10. What do you think ?
Thank you for all Mr. Mike -
It sounds like all of the data is there if GM sees all of the points when you load it, the issue is just why MapInfo is not displaying it. Do the lat/longs show up properly in the status bar when you load your file into GM? I'm wondering if perhaps the data is not properly positioned so MapInfo can't display the points or something. Perhaps you can send me what you have exported (the MIF and MID files) and I can take a look.
Thanks,
Mike
