I have not been able to open DGN files generated by Global Mapper 8 and 9 in Google Earth (Pro) (even after several attempts) which has an Import menu for DGN and other files. Further When I generate contours in Global Mapper and export Kmz, the contour labels ( 25m ....) are always loaded in the side bar and main Google Earth shows only lines , but people want the label along side the contour as is common in any contour map

I'm guessing that Google Earth only has the ability to import old DGN v7 files and not the new DGN v8 format files exported by Global Mapper.

For the contour labels, unfortunately the KMZ format does not have support for displaying line labels along those lines. Labels can only be done via a point spot label. You can of course Ctrl+Left Click on a line feature to get its information, including label and other attributes.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

Unfortunately I do not have Microstation to resave files with lower version. I will take up with Google Earth guys. The whole idea of trying for DGN was to get those labels along side. will they in GE with DGN V7 If you can give me a DGN v7 contour file I shall try in GE pro or any other format that GE pro supports like ILWIS , shape file etc.

    Thanks

I took a look on my system build could not find any DGN v7 files with named line features in them. You can of course export a new Shapefile from Global Mapper with name attributes, although I'm not sure how (if at all) Google Earth determines which attribute to use for display labeling.

    Thanks,

I will try that and also have look at KML help also. GE pro unfortunately does not take DXF as I think it may solve the problem
