Create DEM from topographic image?

I have a topographic chart that I have scanned in as a jpg. I brought it into GM and rectified it. Is there a way for me to trace the topo lines to then create a DEM of the area?

    Keith,

    You can use the Digitizer Tool to trace the lines. Just add an attribute named ELEV with the associated elevation value to associate the elevation. Once that is created, you can right-click on the layer with the digitized contours in the Control Center and select the option to generate an elevation grid to create a DEM.
