Can GM tell me how many vectors are in a shapefile?

I've spent several days with my inverse process for deleting duplicate vectors, their must be thousands if not tens-of-thousands of non-duplicate vectors. After two hours my eyeballs would just sag.

    You can open the Overlay Control Center, select the layer of interest, then press the Metadata button to see a list of information about a layer, including the number of features in a vector layer like a Shapefile.
