Surpress Line Selection

For reasons I don't understand, Global Mapper and the GPS prefer lines over areas. It would be helpful if I could surpress all lines if I'm trying to select an area. Perhaps holding the shift key.

If you hold down the 'P' key when selecting then only the area at the given location will be selected.

Doesn't work for me. I have the Feature Info tool selected, hold down P, and as before it selects a line.

    Must not have understood. ;)

    Thanks

I was talking about in the Digitizer Tool, not the Feature Info tool. You can also disable the selection of line features altogether in all tools by disabling line selection on the Vector Display tab of the Configuration dialog.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

So why is this "feature" different with different tools? We should have universal tool/switch behavior.

    Thanks

I think I agree in this case, I'll get this functionality added to the Feature Info tool as well and point you at a new build when it is ready.

I have completed making the 'P' key cause only areas to be selected with the Feature Info tool. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper9.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v9.xx installation folder to give it a try.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Works great, although I wonder why "P"? But hey, that's being ungrateful.

    Thanks

It's P for "polygon" or "point-in-polygon". Plus P was not being used for anything else in those contexts yet.

Holding "P" selects areas AND lines.

With the edit tool, I held down the P key and rubber banded around a mixed group of lines and areas. The tool selected all the features, not just the areas as expected, Huh???

Is their a way to just select just areas in a mixed context?

    Thanks

The 'P' key only applies for single click selection, it is not used for box selection. I would suggest just going to the Vector Display tab of the Configuration dialog and disabling selection from line features so that lines will not be selected when you are working with your area features.

    Thanks,
