GM v.10 display speed

I have noticed that the display speed for GM workspaces with large text files representing points (unclassified pt features) in v10 is much much slower than for the same data in v9.03 (~22 sec vs. 6 sec). I'm not using the new multi-attribute labeling in v10. The points are labeled using a single attribute in both versions. The display speed for both v9.03 and v10 is about 3 seconds with no labeling. Is there a way to speed up the display in v.10 with single attribute labeling? It does appear that the labels are placed differently in v.10 - perhaps the new labeling feature is slowing it down. Can this be disabled in v10 so that it will be as fast as v9.03? I don't care about the label placement, but I do need the labels. Thanks.

What's happening is that the new default "automatic" label placement is trying to place labels in different locations around a point feature if the default top-right placement fails. For dense point data sets this could be a lot of extra work.

I have updated the automatic placement to just check the top right and bottom left for placement rather than all 8 directions, which should speed things up quite a bit. I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper10.zip with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v10.xx installation folder to give it a try.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Great. Thanks - the display speed is comparable to v9.03 with the new build.
