Export VE - out of memory issue

Hi, I am using GM 9.01 (just upgraded to 9.03) and having an issue with Exporting to Virtual Earth Tiles.

When I load in a large .tif (about 90mb) and then Export either the entire area or even a box to Virtual Earth Tiles, it generates an "out of memory" error after a short time.

I do notice the task mgr memory usage climbing rapidly prior to displaying the error.

Any ideas on how I can work around this or a fix ??

Many thanks for your help !!

    Vinnie,

Can you first try getting the latest build from http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper9.zip and extracting it over your existing installation to see if you still have the same problems? It's possible that you are experiencing an old bug that has been fixed.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for the quick response here !!

I did install the 9.03 version (built 21:00 July 23) and it still produces the same error.

Once I hit Save during the Export to VE tiles, it begins to climb to about 880mb in the task manager, then displays, "out of memory". The export is set to jpg, transparency unchecked, and using the "Draw a box" function.

Mike, thanks again for your assistance !!

    Vinnie,

What zoom level have you selected to export your data at? How large of an area have you selected to export? I actually suspect that you have selected to high of a zoom level to export at based on the extents of your data and actually building the list of tiles to export is resulting in very high memory usage.

    Thanks,

Mike, I'm closing in on an area maybe 10 deg by 10 deg in size (maybe spanning a single full US state). The Level is indeed set to Level 18 with number of zoom levels set to 18.

    Thanks again.

    Vinnie,

Generating an area that size at level 18 max zoom (approx 0.3m per pixel resolution) would result in over 50 million individual tiles being generated! Just holding the list of tiles to generate in memory would indeed cause problems, and even if it didn't I don't you'd be able to hold that many files on most disks as with 64KB block sizes (i.e. min on disk file size) you are talking over 3TB of storage required.

I would suggest using a much lower max zoom level. The default selection will be the first zoom level that preserves the full resolution of the input data. You could probably go a few higher than that if you want people to be able to zoom in more and still see your data.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike
