Always get Service Exception...

Every time I try to download NED data I get a message box with the following error:

Error getting WMS server capabilities
Service Exception getting WMS server capabilities:

Service denied due to system overload. Please try again later.
OGCWMSCapabilities.cpp - 706
Build Time: Apr 30 2008 10:25:22


Is the error really due to system overload and should I just keep trying? I have tried numerous times and days and I have never had any success.

    Yes, the error is really due to system overload. The JPL server (OnEarth, JPL WMS Server) that hosts the NED, SRTM, and Landsat7 imagery that access is provided to in Global Mapper has been very overloaded as late and is denying a lot of requests for data. Unfortunately there isn't anything that we can do about this.

    What you might do is try and download the area of NED data that you need from The National Map Seamless Server, or you can try and purchase the entire NED data set on DVD. The cheapest place that I know that has it is Global Mapper 3D GIS World Mapping GPS Tracking Software (a partner of ours).

    Thanks. I will look at the link you gave, and I already have an account with GISDataDepot, but I was trying to be cheap since I only need a small section.
