Segmentation Violations

I have recently began to have tons of problems exporting images out of global mapper. I am geo-reffing tif images, then I export them and create a TFW. I pull them into Arc-View after that and when I pull them in there I continually get a segmentation violation. I have literally done this same sequence for the last couple of years and never had any problems untill the last 3 weeks! I am using the old version of Arc-View and I believe I am using version 6 of GM. I have also tried exporting these files as JPG's and I still get the segmentation violation when I pull it into Arc-View. Any help with this matter is greatly appreciated!

This sounds like a problem with ArcView. Can you load the generated files back into Global Mapper or other software?

    Thanks,

I had not thought about that but I just tried it and it loads it right back in. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong or where my error could be originating from?

Are your files particuarly large? It could be that you are running out of memory in ArcView or something. Otherwise you'll have to check with ArcView support as the problem is on their end.

When I am exporting these images I go to the control center and just hide the other themes that I have open. Should I be actually closing them? Could that have caused this file to be large? I was under the assumption that when you "hid" the files they would not be exported with the file selected. That could be my mistake! Let me know what you think. Thanks

Hiding the other files should be sufficient to exclude them from the export. How large are the files that are being created?

They are from 9MB up to 10MB before the world file is attached. After the world file is attached it's around 20-24MB.

The files are not unusually large, so I don't think size is the issue. I think you'll just have to see if ArcView support can be of any help (I wouldn't hold my breath) since it it their application that is crashing.

    Thanks,

Ok I think I finally realized what it was. In ArcView for some unknown reason if your file names are to long it creates a segmentation violation! Again thanks for all of your help and thanks for an absolutely great product!

One more quick question for you though.. after I have referenced something and it comes out looking like junk how can I go back in and edit my reference points?

You can re-rectify something by opening the Overlay Control Center, right-clicking on the layer, then selecting the option to Reposition the layer. This will bring the rectification dialog for the layer back up.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,
