geoNorge WMS data

Does anyone know, is it possible to access for free to geoNorge Hjem - geoNorge.no - data via WMS service? If you enter "WMS" to search field, there will be lots of links to WMS with buttons "Vis i kartklient" (View data in online client) and "Vis mer informasjon" (View information).
First button opens WMS client in browser with data (there are lots of layers on this site), but when I try to connect to WMS server via provided link from information page, I get authorisation error. Is it possible to get acces for regular end-users, or direct WMS connection is only for authorized companies?

You do have to be a registered Global Mapper user to be able to add your own WMS data sources to access. I just checked one of the WMS data sets at http://iisis.royken.kommune.no/roykenwms/wms and it worked fine. It is possible that some of the data sets required additional authorization from the data provider before you can download the data. You would have to obtain that authorization from the data provider.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Thanks,
Mike

I think you need to be a registered partner of "geoNorge" - however you can try to post a message on frigeoprogramvare.org • Hovedside and ask if there are any free wms-services available for Norway
Update: By the way - http://iisis.royken.kommune.no/roykenwms/wms is super-slow - atleast on my computer. Not sure if it my slow internet connection or a slow server on their side. -
Hei, I have been trying to use ortophotos from a WMS source in GM and having some problems. The service is http://wms.geonorge.no/skwms1/wms.norgeibilder/. The service seems to load without trouble and I get the satellite images but the higher resolutions images are not visible at all even though they are listed. I was wondering if there some something I am not doing here? I have tried in a couple of other clients for example this one is GeoNorge's own map client http://www.geonorge.no/arcexplorer/link.html?&link=20090925181402484_2 and also I have tried in uDig and it works with no problems. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Mark,
I am unable to access that source as apparently my IP address is not approved for use by them. What version of Global Mapper are you using? When you pick a source is it visible when zoomed out but goes away when you zoom in or something?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi, I am using GM v11, I hadn't actually thought about the IP address issue as my PC is in an "approved" organisation. Yes, when I load the service, I see all the "layers" ranging from Satellite imagery down to orthophotos with 10cm resolution, when I zoom in the satelitte imagery remains all the way in, however when I try on the other clients, there is obviously a scale threshhold used with better resolution imagery the more one zooms in. If I exclude the satellite imagery layer, ther's just nothing. I wanted to send som screen dumps but will have to wait til Monday as I can't replicate the issue now as my PC is out of the network and I also receive an unauthorised notice, the service uses a ticket system to control access.
Thanks

Hi, I have now uploaded some screen dumps from GM, also one screen dump from GeoNorge map client, I think you should be able to open the map at this link without restriction, http://www.geonorge.no/arcexplorer/link.html?&link=20090929082807453_4. The WMS service seems to load OK in GM, The full satellite imagery is displayed, however there is no transistion over to orthophotos. When I turn off the WMS satellite layer, there are no orthophotos underneath. Is it possible to "expand" the WMS layers in GM as one can do in GeoNorge's map client and then have more control which layers are visible? But still the mystery as to why the orthophotos are not visible?
Thanks

Mark,
I think what you need to do is add a separate data source for each of the layers listed under Ortofoto Alle, one for each orthophoto layer. Then you can load the appropriate one for your zoom level, or simply load them all and then turn them on and off as needed.
There is not any way to have them automatically turn on and off based on zoom level as Global Mapper doesn't have any special knowledge of this data set like the GeoNorge application does. To Global Mapper they are just a bunch of independent data layers that could be anything.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Thanks,
Mike
