Changing colours based on attribute name/values

I am busy testing the software (which I think is great, by the way) and I have a sample data set that I am working with. The data is road information and I have that data in shapefile format. I can open it without any issue, but I am now struggling to do a few things:
1 - each line in the dataset has certain attributes, and I want to make each raod a certain colour based on it's value for that specific attribute. I have created a new line style and I'veadded the specific attribute to that line style, but how do I then apply that to the data set so that all lines with the particular value for that attribute will then assume that line style ?
2 - each line segment has a label, but I do not know how to tell Globe Mapper which attribute value to use as the label ?
If you could help me with these points, I'd be most grateful. Our company has been looking for software like Globe Mapper for some time now, and if this testing goes well, will certainly be buying a license.

You can use the Search->Search by Attributes menu command to search for loaded features based on a particular attribute value and edit all of the matching results. In addition, if your data contains an attribute with a name like LAYER, TYPE, DESC, or GM_TYPE and the value associated with that attribute matches a type name in Global Mapper, the type will automatically be assigned on load.
To set the attribute to use for attribute display, simply open the Control Center, select the layer, press Options, then select the attribute(s) to use for label display on the options dialog.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Thanks,
Mike
