I am using a DELL Dimension 8300 and am finding when I work with PNG maps with a file size of 100 Mbytes and over it takes ages and ages to perform functions.

Can you recommend the computer characteristics (e.g. speed, etc.) that will significantly reduce processing time?

Further to my first posting, it's taken over an hour to rectify a 175 Mbyte topographical map this morning. I would like to be able to cut this time back to no more than five minutes. Do I need a Cray to do this or are there reasonably priced PC's that would do the job? Any advice will be, as usual, highly appreciated.

What part is taking so long? Is it taking a long time to redraw or something? You might first try converting your file to a TIFF file to see if that helps the draw times at al. I would not expect it to take anywhere near this long. The bulk of the time should be in figuring out the control point coordinates to use. Typically 4 or 5 control points is enough.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike
