Exporting Shapefiles - Attribute Precision
Hello! I work for a regulatory agency and one of our external filers uses Global Mapper 23.1 to create and export their shapefiles. When we import them into ArcPro, the precision in the attribute fields changes to '0' and causes problems with our system. I've tried using GM to open the shapefiles they send and the precision is retained and the data displays correctly. I also used GM to export the same shapefile to ensure the attribute data type and precision was set correctly and it is, however, again when I opened the shapefile that I exported the same problem exists.
Any thoughts on how to handle this? As you can imagine having a 23.68" diameter pipe being represented as a 2,368" diameter pipe is causing big problems!

Hi Chris,
That is odd. When you do the export, what does the Attribute Setup tab of the Shapefile Export Options dialog show for Precision? You can hand-edit this on the dialog if the defaults from the data don't work.
Also, if you can provide one of the input files that results in this behavior, we hopefully could improve the default behavior, assuming there is an issue with the default Precision assignment.
Thanks,
Mike
