OSM Labels after Win11 upgrade

Hello all,

Some of our field staff have started to receive new laptops with Windows 11 on them. For basemap reference, these staff members use downloaded Open Street Map .osm files, because all of the features are lumped into one layer, it's not possible to turn on or off labels for different features in the layer (Not that I'm aware of anyway).

This layer worked fine while the staff used Windows 10 PCs, however, after the upgrade to Windows 11, some of the labels no longer display, or display incorrectly. I've exhausted my knowledge base on how to get these feature labeled on their maps. It's important that we get this working as these staff members often work in rural parts of the state and have little to no cellular connection, they rely on the labels in the maps to locate the features they are searching for.

Has anyone else ran across this problem, or a similar problem?

    Hi Chris,

You can split layers by attributes by right-clicking on them in the Control Center and choosing to split by some attribute. This would allow you to split up an .osm layer to easily turn labels on and off for certain features.

I'm not aware of any issues with the label display on Windows 11 specifically (it's what most of us use already). Did the staff get new equipment, perhaps with high DPI monitors, or just upgrade to Windows 11 on the same machines?

If you can provide some screenshots and / or sample data that illustrates the issue, we can help track it down. You can either post those there, or send to Global Mapper support to geohelp@bluemarblegeo.com .

    Thanks,

    Mike
